We Treat
Anxiety
Everyone feels anxiety now and then, and of course, there can be good reasons why those feelings are there. With some people it can become more serious in nature. The worry can often be unrealistic or out of proportion for the situation at hand. Daily life becomes a constant state of worry, fear, and dread. Eventually, mental health and anxiety can even dominate a person’s thinking so much that they find it hard to do routine things at work or school, socially, and in their relationships. There are treatments to ease anxiety so it’s not running your life.
Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues worldwide- thankfully, there are many treatment options available at Metro West Sober Living. In addition to medication, we have found that psychotherapies such as EMDR, CBT, and behavioral talk therapy are especially effective. It is also important to incorporate anxiety-reducing relaxation techniques, such as yoga and meditation, for the maintenance of reduced symptoms.
Executive Burnout
Burnout is very real, and sometimes also referred to as adrenal fatigue. Burnout is a form of exhaustion caused by constantly feeling overwhelmed or swamped. It is a result of prolonged emotional, physical, and mental stress that can take a very real toll on your mind and your body. Sometimes going untreated can lead to severe mental health conditions.
At Metro West Sober Living, we understand the serious nature of burnout, and how it can impact anyone from any walk of life. As such, our program has specific components in it that will help begin the healing process and understand the fundamental changes that need to be facilitated in order for you to not only get back on your feet but begin to thrive and re-engage with life on your terms. You will find clarity, calm, and peace and be equipped with the skills to develop a healthy relationship with work.
Executive Burnout Retreat
The emotional toll that burnout brings on can cause a myriad of mental health struggles. Mindfulness approaches such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) are widely successful interventions for treating burnout. Metro West Sober Living is the leading provider of such activities. In addition, Meaning-Centered Therapy (MCT) and other compassion-based approaches are recommended for alleviating the emotional exhaustion brought on by burnout.
Insomnia
The importance of sleep is one of the cornerstones of the work at Metro West Sober Living, it is fundamentally important for everyone’s well-being. Whether you are struggling with poor quality sleep, or clinical insomnia, Metro West Sober Living is well placed to support you to overcome these issues. Sleep hygiene, as it is sometimes termed, is a very important part of the work we do. Whereas we are able to address any specific underlying causes through our clinical work, we also take a whole body and mind approach as well. The combination of these will aid you in achieving regular and healthy sleeping patterns.
Insomnia Treatment
Although medications do exist for sleep disorders, the most common recommendation for insomnia is a combination of psychotherapy and lifestyle changes. Stimulus control therapy, CBT, behavioral talk therapy, are effective methods for resolving sleep disorders. Relaxation techniques such as progressive muscle relaxation, breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation are also used at The Metro West Sober Living.
Mood Disorder
Anyone can feel sad or depressed at times, this is perfectly normal. However, mood disorders can be more intense, and also last longer. As a result, they can be harder to manage than regular feelings of being sad. Life events and elevated levels of stress can compound these feelings, leading to worsening symptoms of mental health and depression. This can make these feelings harder to regulate or manage.
In addition to this, life’s problems can trigger depression. This can include bereavement, trouble with your family, work-related issues or unresolved trauma.
The risk of depression in women is nearly twice as high as it is for men. Once a person in the family has this diagnosis, their siblings and their children have a higher chance of the same diagnosis, which means treatment is so important.
We can help with the following mood disorders:
- Depression
- Bipolar
- Major Depressive Disorder
Treatment for Mood Disorders
When used together medication management and psychotherapies, such as CBT and interpersonal therapy, are successful in managing symptoms of mood disorders. Family and/or group therapy is also important for identifying behaviors and establishing a support system. Mindfulness-based techniques are effective for the maintenance of stable moods and establishing coping tools.
PTSD & Trauma
In the past 3 decades, we have learned an enormous amount about brain functions and interpersonal attachment systems. The clinical community’s understanding of trauma and its role and impact on society is far better understood now than ever before. At Metro West Sober Living we are not only trauma-informed, we are experts in contemporary trauma theory.
